Wild eddible foods

In the following link you can learn about different ways to eat wild edible foods.  Some of the wild foods also have medicinal properties.  This is very helpful for families that are on a budget and who would truly like to reform and improve their diet.  God provides good foods for us, but we must be willing to work in harvest and not slumber.  In the days of the depression (which there are more bankrupt families today than back then), people often ate and preserved wild foods.  The women would NOT go out and find a job to feed her family, instead she would can wild foods.  It is a good idea to have a notebook or binder to help you identify and understand each of the plants in the wild.  In time, you should be capable of learning what to do to prepare these wonderful foods.

Another link for information can be found at wild edible food dot com.

So how would a person consume these foods?  An organized pantry with clearly written labels will help.  Place on the labels what the food is similar to in the supermarket so when a recipe calls for something, the wild alternative can be used.  Frozen versions turn out more like fresh versions.  Syrup can be made and sweet foods can be added.  Vinegars can be used to preserve as well.

I am still in the process of finding canning recipes for wild edible foods.  Particularly, water bath canning and not particularly pressure cooking methods.  I'll try to post on my blog when I have more information on the subject.

I am looking forward to making a dandelion syrup as we often eat pancakes and waffles in our home.

A new garden, wild edibles and missing baby James

Yesterday my handy man husband was able to get our 30+ year old tiller running so that we would have the opportunity to grow a garden this year!  Yay! and its right out side our door.  No driving to pull weeds!!

Right now the garden is about 10 by 20 but we are hoping for a garden that is 20 by 30.  I hope to have all the early plants and seeds in by the middle of next week ;)  I am doing a square foot garden style this year so that I can cram everything into a tiny area and allow the actual plants to grow while choking out the weeds.

****

Have you ever picked blackberries in the woods or even gooseberries.  It is lots of fun and sweaty in the heat of summer.  Did you know that there may be "weeds" in your area that you can actually consume like raw carrots!  Yes, you can actually eat these very special weeds.

I am planning to study this website and our local NE Iowa area to get an idea of what foods I can make and eat.  http://www.ediblewildfood.com/  It sounds like lots of fun and I don't have to prepare the ground or weed anything to eat these absolutely free foods.  In some cases if you don't live in a wild open area, you may talk to a farmer and see if you may look through his pastures for these foods.  Make sure you look in a pasture where animals are so that you aren't harvesting foods that are sprayed with pesticides.  Either that or make sure you find foods near an organic farm.  Once the foods are harvested, the foods may be dried, canned or frozen so foods may last all year long ;)

Finally, our baby James Cameron was born as he was without heart beat this Monday.  It was hard to go through the process of delivery, but all was safe.  He was born as a 15 week old child at 2 oz and 14 cm long.  We will bury him later this week.  The hospital was nice and took pictures of our little child and gave us knitted things to remember him with.  It will be hard to know that he won't beable to give us hugs and call out our name here on earth.

After that incident, I can no longer, even though I never really did in any form, support or encourage anyone to ever go through a form of man-performed abortion.  It is cruel and inhumane.  A child is a child no matter the stage of pregnancy and no matter what "tests" say.  The life of the the mother will not improve if she removes her own child.  It is better to die for your child to save his or her life than to remove ones own.

Education by parents creates reality for children: Immitation school eliminates truth

It’s the number one opposition homeschoolers face from doubting questioners, and unfortunately, one of the biggest obstacles preventing parents from deciding to homeschool: parents want their children to be prepared for the real world so they think they must send them to school.
Stop: who got us to think upside down? Essentially, what this means is, we feel like the best way to prepare our children for the real world is to take them out of the real world, put them in an unrealistic world all day for twelve years, try to simulate the real world, and then tell everyone this is the only way to prepare them for the real world. It’s hilarious just writing that out!
“Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.” Resource for Kids

A loss

I don't like hospitals unless I know exactly what they up to........I don't like hospitals unless I know exactly what they are up to......I don't like hospitals unless I know exactly what they are up to....If there is no heart beat there is no life......yet an ultrasound shows head, legs, fingers, toes. What is going on?

Sometime this week we will have to say goodbye, miscarriage and actually seeing and holding a real partially formed human hand as viewed on an ultrasound. The pain of life. Some one explain to me why this stuff was not explained in 12 + years of schooling in an imitation environment.

I believe I had more education from living in a farm environment. I've seen stillborn calves and such, so nature has a design and God has his way with things. Floods and natural disasters happen.....God gives and takes away.

Its better to face reality, that life is truly fragile, than to pretend it isn't and carry on as if we can ignore it in an imitation sort of way. Religion and politics cover up truth that life has an eternal destiny, even when we listen to our dreams at night, the spirit speaks truth about answers to our deepest concerns. When a dream tells me something is wrong and evidence shows that there is....there is truth there.

Joh_17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Jer_1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Are you thinking like a Christian or a Humanist?

Do you support the evolutionary theory?  If you do, you are in danger of hell fire.

For historical record, Christian thinking has no grounds for accepting Evolutionary theory.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarence_Darrow

Many of us who grew up in public school systems or systems that do not support biblical thinking are not aware of the Clarence Darrow trials which expose that egotistical persons believe they have the superiority to kill, rape and murder innocent persons.

The case of survival of the fittest is a ground for evil as innocent people are murdered under the hand of egotistical persons.  Abortion falls in the same category.

The above link is a link to "How to think like a Christian"

Another test to determine if you support the evolutionary theory, is to determine if you believe that persons should be segregated based on age.  Children below 2 should go to the nursery, children under six go to preschool class etc.  The point is, the bible is eliminated and evolutionary theory is brought into the church and school.

If you are a Christian, you will resist the evil that surrounds all segregation and survival of the fittest.

Milk Jug and Plastic Bag Fun

recycled plastic milk jug

Do you have a lot of milk jugs and are wondering what in the world to do with all of them?

Here are a few ideas: 35 uses for plastic milk jugs

Another possibility is to melt milk jug plastic.  To do that use a clothes iron set on hot steam setting.  Place pieces of cut out milk jug between wax paper.  Set the iron on the wax paper for about 10 seconds.  Let the melted plastic cool and then lift off a new shape that can be used for anything.  Strips of milk jug plastic can be woven to make the sides for a basket and more.

Also, plastic bags can be melted into a sewable fabric strips as well.  Take layers of plastic bag and pieces between wax paper.  Set an iron on lower setting.  Check the setting on your iron and time to melt only enough to allow the plastic to stick together but not dissolve.  You may also crochet or knit plastic bags too.  Try melting just a little bit and see what happens.  For more information go to pinterest

Have fun and make it unique and special looking rather than extra recycled look for you and your household.

Apple Cidar Vinegar Remedy

For children (and adults too):
-64 oz bottle of gatorade (preferably lime/lemon flavor). Add 5 Tablespoons
Apple Cider Vinegar. Give to kids to drink in bottle or freeze as they can
handle it. Slushies too.

For adults:
-1-2 Tablespoons Apple Cidar Vinegar, 1 teaspoon honey, 2 teaspoons dry lemonade
drink mix. Add hot water to a mug and enjoy.

Try to drink 8 oz at least three times a day. Cures Sinus problems, Cold
problems and Flu indigestion problems. Can take three days to cure sinus
problems if body is not used to the substance. Tastes like heated gingerale.

For pneumonia style problems or sinus problems. Boil over 8 oz water with up to
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and maybe a bit of lemon juice. Place a towel
over face as a mask and then drape the other half of the towel over the steaming
hot water mixture. Breath in fumes for 5 minutes as needed.

The key with all of the remedy is the Apple Cidar Vinegar! It helps to kill all
that ikky unnecessary bacteria but keeping the necessary bacteria in the system.

Many of our ancestors used to eat more acidic foods. An old woman at the
nursing home that lived to be over 100 drank vinegar, honey water everyday
before every meal.......She probably rarely needed a doctor ;)

Applecidar Vinegar, honey and water are shown to prevent and cure lots and lots
of problems: Indigestion, brittle bones, sinus, flu bug, weakness in muscles and
joints, fatigue, diarrhea, pneumonia symptoms, anti aging effects and more!

PS. We have been having a great deal of colds and flues this season. The remedy
fixed sinus problems with no need to see a doctor for antibiotics. My flu had
little severity so I could still move around and do things. I'm still waiting
and hoping my kids will drink their gatoraide........
