Being aware of the social conditions around us, doesn't mean we want to participate in those things that are going on. It may mean we turn down the local "rock concert" because it promotes much obscenity. It may mean instead of ignoring our elderly grandmother we go and visit her. It may mean that in order to feel fulfilled we feel more comfortable being social once a week at a bible study gathering instead of going out for a drink with some supposed "friends."
We, as bible believers, need to know the "social atmosphere" around us, and determine if it is beneficial to our spiritual health or if it is a hindrance. Many times, the best way to determine this is by the "fruits" of people's efforts in the social choices. Are they promoting things that are in favor of God's ways and laws? Are they aware that God wants people to be healthy and strong? What about a social atmosphere that appears Christian, but is only entertainment venue? Some secular atmospheres may be better for a Christian than an actual religious atmosphere, because of the work that is involved in serving the weaknesses of humanity. It may simply involve serving others better. It is good to live more simple and on the old-paths for sanity and common ground connection. The more common a person can connect, at a social level, the more likely he or she can serve humanity better.
What about fake "christian" social atmospheres? Maybe they promote a singer that is less than ideal as far as dress and behavior is concerned? Maybe they claim that in-order to win the prodigal son, a person needs to look, behave and breathe like the prodigal? These things are not the right way to win a person to the truth. They appear nice, but in reality they are going to keep people away from the promise of redemption which does include understanding and knowledge of the old-testament including the "law of Moses." Prayer should bring about good in a person's heart as a whole. It should also cause a person to make good social choices among the secular society and in the minds and hearts of saved believers.
Yes, a person needs to know the "bad" in our social lives. The ugly stuff that goes on in political world and other places, but a person does not have to "bow down" to their idols. Instead of catering to one side or the other of a divided heart political spectrum, simply follow Jesus and do what is right. Don't be angry or upset. Be willing to stand for righteousness and truth.
