Christian Liberty: Education (3)

Expectations for a child create more havoc than good for the child.  Think about the life of Jesus.  He was born and wrapped in swaddling cloths.  That was a common method of holding children in that culture in those days.  In many cultures, even today, parents are becoming wise and learning that the children are happier when they are close to the parent or guardian until the child can walk, so baby wraps are used.  Institutionalizing the very young child seems as a sort of cruelty or is done to children left abandoned.  Cry-it-out methods are not positive methods of parenting.  So the child of 3 months can already pick up on many cues in his or her environment.

Moving on to about the age of weaning (depending upon the situation at hand it could be at 1 year or it could be at 4 years old), the child is processing many things even without entering a special learning environment.  A child with parents who read regularly to the child, is at an advantage academically.  I would not encourage "pressure" to read from the young child, but simply basics of faith.  Prayer, kindness, cleaning up toys and things of that sort.  A little montessori method of learning can help the child greatly master many problems at hand.

Furthermore, discipline in the weaned(ing) child should not be as severe if proper parental communication is established.  The child says, "I don't like that flavor of ice cream."  The wise parent will say, "OK" and move on.  Of course some correction may be needed if the child is whiny about matters that are not in realistic perspective.

When the child begins to learn, ensure that TRUTHS are taught to the child more than "silly stuff."  Simply reading out of the bible has many truths which will help the child in life, especially from the LAW (first five books of the bible) when driven by faith.  A daily habit of building up the practice of reading from the Psalms and Proverbs builds much educational strengths.

Overall, one will find that the reading of "many books" can provide a child of average academic strengths, much needed information to help the child thrive academically.  The "institutional school system," even the Christian schools, may develop a sort of institutionalized elective thoughts.  Such thoughts that have been hammered into some children which create "racism" tensions or other sorts of tensions, rather than the "comfort of the Holy Spirit."  This is sensed when a person reads through various "raw books" in history.

Because of the problem for "institutionalized" methods of thinking some children's emotions are left "suppressed" rather than understood.  Children would like to be heard and understood.  Children would like to know that they CAN function as a decent person by listening to other's perspectives as well.  Reading out of the Psalms and Proverbs with the child helps the child LEARN what emotions are good at comprehending the various behaviors in humanity.....from the ancient times to today.  Reading out of "the law" or "character perspectives from the bible" helps the child know what types of Character behaviors are good for God and good for humanity.
