Some people live to eat. Their day revolves around what will be the next meal. Instead of assuming the simple foods and diets, they assume that all meals MUST include a full array of variety. The reality is that our bellies don't need as much food, but our hearts need more love. Specifically love from God's word and brotherly and sisterly love are of more value than the foods we have in our belly.
When people are stressed. They eat. When people are worried. They eat. When people are anxious. They eat. Instead of putting their eyes and ears to the word to heal their ailment, they find fulfillment in eating. Such a habit is not good for the soul. Winning souls for Jesus should be a higher priority than trying to "eat" ones way through life. Their are MANY souls who hunger and thirst for righteousness, but WE must be the ones who give them opportunity to find such love.
Gluttony does not have to be the solution to the problems in the heart and emotion. Instead focus on better habits in eating.
There are foods listed in the bible that are not "Kosher" and some foods that are "Kosher" so to speak. It is OK to eat those foods sometimes, as Peter was given the "ok" to do so, but really, people can live on eating more Kosher styles of foods. Less pork products and more humus, if you will, can actually improve one's internal organs and health condition. It is not the ultimate cure for our hearts that ache for righteousness, but it is a good idea to consider eating cleaner meats to heal our physical bodies.
One thing to consider, is the condition of eating foods "offered to idols"! Yes, in the New Testament Christians are specifically told not to eat these foods. Such markets which sell these foods must be "boycotted." Purchasing the foods that are offered to "idols" increases the likelihood that people will increase their "incomes" for these specific religions that are idolatrous in nature. Maybe they are following a specific "Halal" meats. Those meats and the markets which sell them must be avoided because purchase from those markets promotes the idolatry that they practice. If a person is living in those countries which often has "Halal" meats and other types of "idolatry" meats in each and every store, consider only purchasing very basic items from those markets. Do not purchase expensive items from those markets. Consider raising or hunting for ones own meat from home if at all possible.
There is a possibility that someone will harass you or others about eating habits. Do not assume they know what they are doing when they are harassing about eating or not eating certain foods, but assume they are not aware that the heavenly father knows their hearts and minds and he also knows yours. The more you are faithful to God's word, the less tension you will feel when they are harassing you.
