Christian Liberty: Domestic Relationships (4)

Marriage should not be too institutionalized.  Be individual followers of Christ.  unhindered living topics.

When you decided to "love" your spouse, did you start to tell him or her how to eat their food?  Did you tell him or her how to wear their clothes?  Unless there is something going on, like a health problem, I am sure you do not "nit-pick" at your spouse.  Love is more than what a person eats or wears.

Of course if you would prefer that they "wear" something special or "eat" something in particular, do so in a loving and kind way that shows that you care for them.

The entire marriage cannot function on "institutional" habits. Getting out the "check mark" system to ensure that things are done in a certain way, strains relationships.  Who in their right mind actually wants someone to force another person to resolve life issues by forcing them to do things?  Appreciation and admiration are essential.

In some cases it is better to let a "wayward" spouse go for a while.  With kindness draw them back in.  Such tension never really resolves matters of the heart.

Furthermore, being jealous at another spouse and their better condition than yours, equates to tension in the home.  Maybe that spouse is part of an evil "secret society" and you don't know it.  Maybe that spouse is a hypocrite when it comes to their faith.  Acceptance is the key.
